1. Wake up at your own pace.
You know your own sleeping patterns better than anyone. Are you an early-riser or a snooze-hitter? Whichever you prefer, wake up at the time that suits your lifestyle and choose a calm method of waking up, like a sunrise alarm clock that gradually adjusts to your designated brightness level after 30 minutes.
2. Resist the urge to check social media or emails.
Admit it, tons of us are guilty of this one. However, resist the urge first thing in the morning to let yourself have time to relax instead of jumping head first into the stressful world of the internet. Anything you’ll see on there can wait at least a half hour.
3. Start your day with a plan.
Jotting down a few to-do’s that are on your mind will instantly relieve your stress and give you a plan of attack for the day. With your to-do list on paper, your mind will feel more clear and ready to be productive.
4. Practice mental health habits that work for you.
Whether you like to journal or say affirmations, the quiet time of the morning should incorporate some mental health ritual that works for you. A morning mindset journal is a quick way to encourage positive thinking to start your day.
5. Try habit stacking.
It can be hard to start a new routine, like chugging a green smoothie every day or going for a run. That’s when habit stacking comes in to make your life so much easier. Adding things onto your current routine and combining them with steps you already do will make you stick with them. Have a morning coffee every day? Journal while you drink. Love watching YouTube? Walk on the treadmill while you do it. It’s that simple.
6. Get physical.
You don’t have to hit the gym hard first thing in the morning if you don’t want to — Rolling out of bed and stretching for 5 minutes will change your life. Giving you a sense of accomplishment, your next goal won’t seem as daunting. And the next. And the next. Sprawl across your rug or invest in an aesthetic yoga mat to motivate you to start your day right.
7. Prepare the night before.
Lay out your clothes, pack your bag, meal prep your breakfast. Your future self will have less work to do and face it, you don’t want to think that much in the morning anyways. The most productive and efficient morning routines start the night before!
